Alignment of Body and Mind Through Physical Pilates Workouts

Mindbody Pilates routines have healed and promoted core strength and spine health for decades. The principles of movement that Joseph Pilates understood to be significant in truly achieving a healthy state of “Being” are:

  • Whole-body Movement
  • Breathing
  • Concentration
  • Control
  • Centering
  • Precision
  • Rhythm and Fluid Movement

Pilates Method to the Madness

How I incorporate these Pilates training principles in my personal movement is simple, but not easy. When I begin my Pilates routine, I first adjust my attitude by centering through breath. I use my basic meditation practice to focus on the quality of my breath…in with the breath and out with the breath—quiet, not forced.
I notice how my body feels during the process.

Starting My Day with the Pilates Method

To move the body I must discipline my mind. Breathing…. I slowly wiggle my toes. I find a big stretch and let my body move in bed. I imagine my body as a fine golden necklace with few knots that just need to be encouraged to let loose . I start to wiggle and jiggle…(very scientific terms!!) exactly as you would loosen a knot from a necklace, you can loosen the knots from various parts of your body.

The release comes and then I move out and up to spend 10 minutes with spinal exercises.

The pelvic curls and lifts are my two morning Pilates technique favorites.

More on that later…
